When Israel was set free from over 400 years of slavery, they were free but only externally. They remained enslaved to a conditioning that caused them to misinterpret freedom. They were still enslaved in their ideology. The wilderness was to be the type of training that would give them the best environment to be set free internally as well as externally. Freedom is not the right to do anything one wants but it is the invitation to govern yourself in favor of being governed by another. However, in free societies there are laws in place that will come into effect once a citizen refuses to govern themselves in a manner that protects all others. We too must come face to face with our wilderness and allow it to train us to live in liberty internally and externally.
